Volunteer opportunities

PSST...Pass it on. TELCI welcomes volunteers; please let your friends, colleagues and family members know about our mission to promote the well being, independence and interests of the people we support. TELCI's volunteers provide an essential support to our organization. We have greatly benefitted from the diverse talents of our volunteers, and welcome you to share yours. Some of our volunteers have provided the following support:

  • Friend.
  • A recreational companion, supporting people to access their community.
  • Act as a sighted guide.
  • A driver for people attending appointments or events.
  • Website and media design.
  • Public relations, marketing, fundraising, journalism, media relations.
  • Filing, coordination of events, gardening, landscape design.

Counsellor Aide : Rotating Weekend Shifts

POSITION: Counsellor Aide
LOCATION: 114 Rossland

SALARY: $21.06 PER HOUR, REGULAR RATE as per collective agreement
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • D.S.W. or equivalent education and experience as determined by TELCI
  • Experience working with individuals with an intellectual disability and a visual impairment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of behaviour management principles (certificates in behaviour management courses such as gentle persuasion and non-violent crisis intervention will be considered toward your qualification)
  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal skills with clients, co-workers and management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and abilities in transferring, lifting, and other attendant care duties
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain positive relationship in a team environment
  • Demonstrated availability and reliability in attendance
  • Demonstrated adherence to TELCI policies and procedures
TERMS: Rotating weekend shifts: 4 week rotation
Eg:
   wk1: Sat & Sun 8:30-20:30
   wk2: Off
   wk3: Fri 17:00-21:00; Sat & Sun 12:00-21:30
   wk4: Off Saturday and Sunday

JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Counsellor Aide
RESPONSIBLE TO: Program Manager

Duties

Provides basic care to visually impaired multi-handicapped adults

Assists in the organization and scheduling of leisure time.
Assists in the purchase, care, and repair of personal belongings.
Assists in the administration of medications.
Assists in personal hygiene and basic care.
Provides sighted guide & transportation.
Provides attendant care services to specified clients, including transferring. lifting, bathing, feeding and personal care
Provides other assistance, including informal counseling, as needed.

Assists in the implementation of behavior management and lifeskills training programs

Collects baseline data
Maintains records, implements established programs as directed
Provides input regarding the effectiveness of programs.

Co-ordinates the daily activities of the group home.

Assists in group meal planning, grocery shopping , and meal preparation.
Ensures the basic maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of the home.
Purchases household goods as needed.
Helps to resolve interpersonal conflicts.

Represents TELCI to the community at large.

Maintains a professional manner at all times in the performance of her/his duties.
Protects and promotes the welfare, dignity, and individual rights of TELCI's clients at all times.
Adheres to the goals, and aims of TELCI in all professional activities.

TERMS: Weekend shifts: Every Saturday and Sunday 8:30am-12:30pm
