Socially Savvy Style : A Fundraiser for TELCI

The fashion fundraiser for Therapeutic and Educational Living Centres Inc. was held at Wall Space Gallery on Wednesday June 23rd with jewellery from the gallery and clothing from HUSH Resale Clothing. With the help of many local businesses, $3100 was raised to assist TELCI in raising awareness for their work. Our Models were proud to wear exceptionally funky and fabulous fashions and jewellery for the event. Our models included Laura, John, Nancy, Therese, Diann, Mark, Jessica, Kit, Jennifer, Liana, Lara and Jenna. They did a fantastic job, and are considering modeling again for our next event!

Our very generous sponsors included Wall Space Gallery, HUSH Re-Sale Clothing, Milagro Grill, Dharma Developments, The Grange of Prince Edward Vineyards & Estate Winery, and Starfish Events. In addition we received generous donations from many of our community members; Alison Fowler (artist), Andrew King (artist), Arevco Lighting, Bridgehead, Bloomfields, Dr. John Fitzgerald, J-Squared Design, Jim Armiento-Your CFO, Border Ladner and Gervais, Protectron, Red Chair Kids, Saunders Farm, The Candy Store, The Hair Committee, Third Wall Theatre, Thyme and Again, and Rachel Norman of Tai Knots Jewellery. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Wall Space was a perfect, accessible environment for the event, the backdrop music courtesy of Akash Sinha, exceptionally good food from Milagro, tasty wine from The Grange and MC talents of Angela Saunders AKA The Green Queen from Saunders Farm made this event one not to miss. For those of you who could not make it we will be doing it again next year! In the meanwhile we appreciate your support of TELCI. Donations are welcome via our website, in person or by mail. Any amount is appreciated and helps us fulfill our mission.

Canadian Earthquake Relief Fund Program for Haiti

Several of the staff and people we support here at TELCI are reeling from the news of the catastrophic earthquake that struck Haiti. As you know Haiti is a country already experiencing extraordinary hardship. Our deepest sympathies go out to those who have lost loved ones and wish people strength as they wait to hear news about those who have not yet been found.

Many of us here at TELCI are searching for a way to reach out to help the people of Haiti. There are several aid agencies already mobilized to provide food, clean water, shelter, and medical supplies and services. Some websites are listed below if you wish to make a donation in support of these efforts. The Canadian government has announced that it will match individual donations made between January 12 and February 12 to registered Canadian charities working in Haiti.

Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act 2008

As many of you may already know TELCI and agencies like us are governed by a piece of legislation called the Developmental Services Act. This Act will soon be replaced by the Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act 2008, which has received royal assent. A draft regulation for the new act has been posted on the MCSS website for feedback from the public along with a message from Minister Madeline Meilleur www.ontario.ca/community. All public feedback must be received by February 16, 2010. We encouraged you to review the information and give your feedback. The more input received from community members will hopefully reflect an act that is more responsive to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities.

Your feedback can be sent by mail to:
